A CROSSING WITH A MOVING PURPOSE
A manually operated swing bridge, bringing a new connection to Wichelstowe’s waterway.
Bushey Fox Bridge serves walkers, wheelchair users and cyclists. When boats need to pass, the bridge rotates on its pivot bearing into a purpose-built recess in the canal bank.
EKSPAN brought manufacture, specialist bearing installation and site delivery together, taking the bridge from its Sheffield workshop to the crossing at Wichelstowe.

The complete bridge was manufactured and assembled at EKSPAN’s facility, bringing structural fabrication and mechanical components together.

Trial fitting took place before delivery. Working for Fox (Owmby) Limited, EKSPAN then installed the bridge at its canal crossing.

The pivot bearing is the point around which the bridge turns. EKSPAN’s scope included installing and grouting the bearing, with temporary supports and jacking used to set the bridge at the required level.
