A491 New Bishopmill Bridge

EKSPAN worked collaboratively with Pat Munro and MHB Consultants to deliver the bearing replacement works on Bishopmill Bridge in Elgin, a key structure with 39 years of service to the local community.

EKSPAN delivered the design, supply, installation and associated temporary works for the replacement of its life-expired bearings. This included all bridge jacking and de-jacking operations to ensure safe and precise installation.

By renewing these critical components, the project has secured the long-term structural integrity of Bishopmill Bridge, ensuring it continues to serve and support the wider Elgin community for decades to come.

Project Scope

Our scope of works included:

Supply and installation of new bridge bearings and associated temporary works

Design and implementation of bridge jacking and de-jacking systems to facilitate bearing replacemen

Bearing replacement delivered as part of the first major maintenance programme in the bridge’s lifecycle
Renewal of life-expired components to protect the structure’s long-term performance and ensure it continues to serve the community effectively

Project Challenges

The works demanded careful scheduling and disciplined execution. With tight timescales set to meet agreed milestones, EKSPAN was required to mobilise rapidly and complete operations within a compressed programme. Despite the challenges, the team delivered efficiently, ensuring the bridge was fully reopened to traffic on 28th November.
