BRIDGE OF AVON EXPANSION JOINT REPLACEMENT, SCOTLAND
EKSPAN are delivering phased expansion joint replacement works on Bridge of Avon – supplying and installing our T-Mat bridge deck joint systems to improve ride quality, reduce long-term maintenance demands, and enhance the bridge’s structural performance.
EKSPAN SUPPORT
The project involves the removal and replacement of a legacy expansion joint system across both carriageways. EKSPAN’s work includes:
- Breakout of existing concrete nosings and removal of debris
- Installation of sub plates, tied into existing bridge deck reinforcement
- Pouring and curing of a new concrete substrate
- Installation of both T-Mat 30 and T-Mat 80 joints, depending on specific span requirements manufactured by EKSPAN
- Application of nosing mortars and anti-skid surfacing
- Placement of verge cover plates for system closure
Following completion of the first carriageway, EKSPAN have now progressed to the second – using the same tightly coordinated process and methodology.
WHY T-MAT?
The T-Mat system is engineered for continuous fitment – offering smoother transitions for vehicles, improved durability, and effective movement absorption. It reduces water ingress risk and the likelihood of joint failure over time, making it ideal for structures like Bridge of Avon.
