EKSPAN ELASTOMERIC BEARINGS ENHANCE BRIDGE DURABILITY

In this blog we share why elastomeric bearings allow bridges to be more durable in the ever-changing weather conditions faced globally. We also explain how EKSPAN can help you achieve your project goals, without compromising on quality and durability of the result.

Why choose elastomeric bearings

Elastomeric bearings are layers of rubber between vulcanised steel plates, most effective where vertical loads and movements are relatively low. They are a great low-cost solution for your bridge. These bearings protect the bridge against parallel, perpendicular and rotational movements within the structure to ensure the bridge is durable.

The bearings are the best option when the movements of the structure are too small to reduce. Making sure the load is manageable for the bearing improves the strength of the bridge.

EKSPAN elastomeric bearings are available as pads or strips, using natural or Chloroprene rubber for the layers. Chloroprene rubber allows flexibility over a year-round range of temperatures, making the bridge durable in all conditions. Natural rubber is also durable in temperature changes. It is further highly resistant to ozone, ageing, UV and chemical effects it may face during its lifespan.

Our strip elastomeric bearings can be installed to support multiple bridge beams. The pads are available in standard or special sizes, depending on your project. Laminated elastomeric bearings can also be suitable for larger bridges and can be produced to suit your project’s needs.

Using elastomeric bearings makes sure the bridge structure will withstand tests from warm weather in the summer and unpredictable conditions in the winter. They are an ideal choice for small, medium, or height restricted bridges. During the worst weather conditions, the bridge will remain made to last. The elastomeric bearings are simple to install and maintain. They have a lifespan of 100 years, subject to correct installation.
